by admin on Jun.03, 2011, under Health Care

IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a digestive disorder which is more common in adults’ especially middle aged women. This disorder is not fatal nor does it become a cause for another disease. The IBS symptoms are different in every person. Some might experience mild symptoms while some others might have to face terrible pain. The most common symptom of IBS is the abdominal pain which is also called as colicky and achy. The intensity of the abdominal pain will vary from patient to patient. Some might feel less pain while some others might experience severe pain in the abdomen.

Other IBS symptoms are nausea, bloated abdomen, excess wind and indigestion. One of the tell-tale sign of IBS can be vomiting but it is extremely rare in the victims of IBS. Some bad consequences that follow IBS are back pain, poor sleeping patterns, tiredness and headache. This digestive disorder is hard to detect as it cannot be diagnosed through blood tests or an X-ray. The causes of this disease are also quite uncertain. However, there are certain factors that can lead to IBS. One of them is emotional stress which can be a cause for spasms of the colon. Anxiety and depression also are cause for IBS. These two factors not only cause the disorder but they are also capable of worsening the situation.

There are certain remedies for curing IBS. The first one is to reduce the emotional stress and anxiety. Stress happens to be one of the major reasons for the development of IBS, so reducing it will definitely help the patient to get better. Another remedy to get relief from the IBS symptoms is to take proper medicines. Keeping a healthy diet is another way to cure IBS. The person must avoid foods that contribute to the discomfort caused by IBS and eat foods that help in curing the disorder.

Know All About Migraine Symptoms

by admin on May.23, 2011, under Health Care

Think migraine, think headache. But migraines are more than just headaches. A migraine episode would consist of four phases: prodrome, aura, headache, postdrome. And each phase is accompanied by its own set of symptoms. Let us get acquainted with some of them.

Phase One: Prodrome

It precedes the period of headache by hours or even days and signals the immanency of the attack.  Migraine victims experiencing prodrome can find it beneficial since they can use the opportunity to try and avoid the attack. Maintaining a migraine diary can aid in this endeavor. Symptoms encountered in this phase include increased craving for food, constipation or diarrhea, feeling of depression, and stiffness of the muscles, general tiredness and increased urination.

Phase Two: Aura

Aura is the most common precursor to headaches, though not common to all migraine patients. It never lasts more than an hour and is marked by sensory disturbances caused by neurological changes in the body. Primary among them are a range of visual symptoms from flashes of light and spots to cloudy vision and partial loss of sight. Distortions in hearing, smelling non-existent odors, dizziness, problem focusing on and forming words are a few other characteristics associated with the aura phase. It also serves as a warning for impending migraine attacks.

Phase Three: Headache

It is undoubtedly the most significant and dreaded phase of a migraine episode. Accompanied by severe unilateral pain in the head, photophobia, nausea, it can continue for hours stretching into days, and cause acute discomfort and leave a person totally drained.

Phase Four: Postdrome

Some of the migraine symptoms linger even after the headache has stopped. Bodily fatigue and mental lethargy continue to plague a person affected by a migraine, and mood levels can remain erratic.

However, you must keep in mind that not everyone suffering from migraine experience all the four phases. In fact, the phases experienced along with their corresponding symptoms need not be the same from one migraine attack to another in the same person.
